Announcing Concise!

Hello there everyone! We hope you're having a non-negative response to Sol's current level of atmospheric heating! It sure is weather-like in some places on the globe!

Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, here is another pleasant thing! Team Octocon are organising an evening-long convention called Concise this coming May 10th! Huzzah!

We'll have such excellent guests as Michael Carroll (2000 AD, Quantum Prophecy), C.E. Murphy (The Walker Papers), and Peadar Ó Guilín (The Inferior) taking part in our singular panel, a short reading of a classic piece of speculative fiction, a screening of one Golden Blasters film, and more!*

We'll also be taking memberships for Octocon 2012 if you happen to want to grab one while you're there. ;)

All this will take place in Exchange Dublin (Exchange Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2) from 7pm and it's FREE! Bring your friends and prepare to be dazzled by how brilliant conventions can be!**

We can't wait to see you all there!

**dazzling not a guarantee

Lots Of News!!

Welcome, one and all, to the latest iteration of Octocon.com! You can check out the first batch of our guest bios here, the Golden Blasters page here (which is taking submissions for this year's competition, by the way!), and...

We know the site is late, and still coming together, but to make it up to you, we have a little something for you!

*drum roll*

It’s The 2012 Octocon Anthology and writing contest! Tada!

Take a gander and find inside the luminaries Derek Gunn, Ruth Frances Long, Oisin McGann, C.E. Murphy, Alan Nolan, Peadar Ó Guilin, and of course, last year’s writing contest winner Damien Kelly!

Our codemonkey is still working out the kinks in the new registration page, so for those looking to sign up soon, you can find us at P-Con IX this weekend! P-Con IX takes place in the Dublin Writers’ Centre on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of March.

We look forward to seeing you there!

A Quick Update

Hi everybody! We just wanted to update you with some newsbits, just in case you thought we'd forgotten about you. ;)

Convention Updates

2010 dates are coming very soon. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks for updates in this regard. We just need to make some final checks before we can announce everything. Thanks so much for being patient with us!

Once that's in order, PayPal will be going live again to take memberships. The prices will be increasing over the course of the year, so make sure you get your memberships early!

As for this Octocon past,  we do have to thank everyone that donated items to the charity auction and everyone that bid on them. We'll likely have a seperate post about this shortly, but we raised a significant sum of money for Achieve ABA and we couldn't have done it without all of you.

Guest Updates

For those that haven't heard, Octocon 2010 Guest of Honour George R.R. Martin will be signing in Eason's Belfast and Dublin this November 3rd and 5th, respectively. Check out George's blog about this here.

C.E. Murphy is now working with Chapters Bookstore in Dublin to bring  just about everyone in the world signed and personalised books! Yay!

Alex de Campi has a new column about launching her new comic.

Mike Carey and Peter Gross's The Unwritten #6 came out last week and you should go and get it.

That's all for now!
